This Week’s Industry News: 31/03/2017

As Q1 ends, the intense focus on ticket buying bots and the secondary ticketing market feels like it has reached a fever pitch and significant change is most certainly just around the corner. Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the fight against online touts, and a few more interesting news snippets, below:

• The House of Lords have approved more legislation governing the ticket resale market and empowered the commons to criminalise the use of bots.
• The newest (and perhaps unwanted) development in the campaign against ticket touting is taking place in Alabama. The US state is considering creating a statutory right for consumers to be able to resale tickets.
• Stuart Galbraith, CEO of Kilimanjaro Live has taken some pot-shots at the amount of money Google’s makes from secondary ticketing providers via pay-per-click advertising.

• The UK music industry’s two performing rights organisations – PRS For Music (songs/live performance) and PPL (recordings) – have announced that they are piloting a new system to link their respective databases.
